ROUTE 5: Graduate Entry to Medicine or Dentistry
The M&D Pre-Med programme provides students with suitable preparation to apply for entry to the second year of a Bachelor of Science degree (BSc) at the University of Sussex and Brunel University, West London. Students who have successfully completed the Pre-Med can apply for second-year entry into Biochemistry or Molecular Medicine at the University of Sussex, and Biomedical Sciences at Brunel University.
These degree courses are widely accepted by UK medical and Dental schools as qualification for entry into their 4 and 5-year graduate programmes.
This route also serves as an excellent reserve option should the student not wish to study abroad, or change their mind whilst on the programme. One unique aspect of the Pre-Med programme is that it is taught at a first-and-second year degree standard, therefore successful entry to the second year of a related degree programme ensures that the student can obtain a degree in the standard three years.
Please note that entry to the second year of a related course is decided on a case-by-case basis, and is subject to the availability of places on those courses.

ROUTE 6: UK Medical and Dental schools
This is undoubtedly the preferred option for most students. For this reason, there is a special focus on preparing each student’s UCAS application form in the optimum way.
Competition for places on all Medicine and Dentistry degree courses in the UK is very intense. Consequently, it is not possible to give a guarantee that you will gain entry to a UK medical or dental school. However, we offer what is arguably the best and possibly the only way to secure a place at a medical or dental school hopefully in the UK, and if not, overseas. The M&D Pre-Med programme is unique and effective as it offers our successful students several windows of opportunity to continue their studies.
Some UK medical schools are very positive about the Pre-Med, while others have varying attitudes to non-standard. Some will only consider A-levels passed at high grades at the first attempt and some require specific grades in school leaving examinations as well as the M&D Pre-Med.
Remember that it is individual students who are considered and admitted, so your UCAS application and personal statement will always be really crucial to create a good first impression.
Remember that medical and dental schools consider students on an individual basis, so your UCAS application and personal statement are crucial to creating a positive initial impression which can be the first step to securing a place.
Over the past 4 years, 24% (about 1 in 4) of students who successfully completed the M&D Pre-Med were offered a place by a UK medical school.
In comparison, only approximately 11% of students (about 1 in 9) who apply directly to a UK medical school through UCAS receive an offer of a place.
Many former M&D Pre-Med students are currently studying for bachelors degrees at university, and may go on to secure a place at a UK medical school in due course. This would further improve our success rate of 24%.
Most students on the M&D Pre-Med programme had been unsuccessful in their initial applications to a UK medical or dental school. Many of these have gone on to secure an offer of a place at their second or even third attempts. The M&D Pre-Med has more than doubled the chances of these students of receiving an offer from a UK medical school. However, the M&D Pre-Med Programme should not be regarded as a route solely designed for gaining entry to a UK medical or dental school. We like students to be open to the possibility of studying outside the UK for at least part of their medical or dental degrees. Our step-by-step approach from the initial stages of considering medicine or dentistry as a career, through UCAS personal statement guidance, and medical mock interview sessions on a leading university campus, to UKCAT and BMAT preparation, and help with obtaining relevant work experience has proved to be a winning formula which helps are students reach their full potential.
