About the M&D Foundation
Competition for places at UK medical and dental schools is as fierce as ever; with many medical schools only accepting three ‘A’s at A-Level, many students are diversifying and increasing their chances of securing places in the UK and abroad. For many students, the M&D Foundation is the first step on the road to medicine or dentistry.
The M&D Foundation course is a one year course run at Albion College in Central London. The course teaches students the basis of knowledge required to study medicine at university, and provides an understanding of how the human body works through the lens of physiology, genetics and molecular biology, cells and tissues, microbiology and chemistry. Students who complete the course and attain a score of 65% or above can gain direct entrance to the M&D Pre-Med programme at the University of Sussex – International students will need an IELTS score of at least 6.5 in addition to this.
Alongside the in-depth preparation for studying medicine, this course also provides excellent advice on applications made to medical and dental schools, such as filling out your UCAS forms, United Kingdom Clinical Aptitude Test (UKCAT) preparation and help with interviewing.
The M&D Foundation is the first part of a journey into medicine and dentistry, on a path with many outcomes. To see a diagram of these outcomes, please see our Progression Routes diagram.
